The name is beyond ghastly, but the Canadian garage rock-duo are a brilliantly frenetic, noisemongering force of nature.
Frontman Brian King explained his hopes for a good show after they’d had some technical difficulties the night before... not two minutes later something gave out and his guitar fell silent after yet another bit of kit gave up the ghost. Thankfully, they were soon back on track and diving into a blistering The Boys Are Leaving Town.
How do they make so much noise with only the pair of them? King’s guitar belts out chunky riffs and distorted feedback against David Prowse’s thundering drums (and no, he’s not the westcountry Darth Vader actor), but beneath the washes of sound, there’s something thrillingly teenage about what they do.
The duo’s traded vocals about French-kissing French girls and jaded hipster scenes are perfectly pitched for the sheer youthful vitality of their sound.
With their debut album Post-Nothing proving something of a sleeper hit (and a favourite of the Pitchfork crowd), it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with next.
