Woman dies after being hit by 4x4 in Eastbourne

UPDATE: A woman who died after she was hit by a 4X4 has been named.

Maria Figueria, 60, was hit by the BMW travelling north west as she walked in Lottbridge Drove, Eastbourne, near the junction of Willingdon Drove, at 4pm on Wednesday.

Mrs Figueria, from Madeira, Portugal, had been visiting relatives in Eastbourne. She was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery but died during the night.

The 4x4 driver, a 44-year-old man from Eastbourne, was unhurt.

Road policing officers at Polegate are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision to call 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Chesworth.
