Wooden huts in Crawley destroyed by fire

Firefighters spent the early hours of the morning tackling a blaze where three recreational huts were destroyed.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews from Crawley, Horsham and Horley were called to Tilgate Huts, in Tilgate Forest, behind the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, at 2.05am today.

The wooden huts, which were 25 metres by 25 metres each, were completely destroyed by the flames.

Firefighters spent more than four hours using four pumps and specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

Sussex Police were also called to the scene and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

I do feel Ruth Lumley could have improved her cutting and pasting of this press release by doing some basic googling to find out more about these huts and what they were used for.

10 seconds of interweb browsing tells me that they were home to the following:
1 Crawley Sports Table Tennis Club

2 Foresters Table Tennis Club

3 Ji Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Association

5 Fi-Steps Performing Arts and Dance

6 Artisans Motoring Club

7 Crawley Operatic Society

8 Crawley Model Railway Society

9 Gatwick Kickboxing Club

10 Nautical Training Corps - TS Superb

11 Crawley Scooter Club

12 Crawley War Games Club

13 Crawley Cycling Club

14 Cho-Wa Ju-Jitsu Association, and Crawley Ki Aikido Club

15 Shin Ichi Do Iaido Club

16 Crawley Camera Club

17 Crawley Judo Club

18 Crawley Amateur Radio Club

19 Forest Amateur Musical Entertainers (FAME)

20 Crawley School of Tae Kwondo

21 Evolutionary Martial Systems

24 Crawley Branch of the British Sub Aqua Club

25 Crawley Karate Club

26 Forest Gym

27 Ichi Ban Karate Club

28 Ariel Drama Plus

29 SE Division National Model Railway Association

30 Crawley Slot Car Club

31 Nautical Training Corps - TS Glorious

As such, a possible theory regarding the destruction of the huts must surely be an internecine war between the dozens of different martial arts factions, all doing a lot of "kung fu fighting", which would have been a "little bit frightning".
One can easily picture the woods swarming with maniacally martial arts fanatics, perhaps reminiscent of the classic late 70s New York gang film "The Warriors".

What a shame, all those clubs (and members) looking for new homes for their activities.
