The first new council houses in nearly 30 years are to be built in Brighton and Hove.

The Argus understands talks are underway to transform the run-down Ainsworth House in Wellington Road, Brighton, into a multi-storey family complex.

The plans were discussed when officers from Brighton and Hove City Council met tenant representatives to discuss future housing developments.

It is hoped the new plans can help solve the housing crisis in the city, with 11,500 households currently on its social housing waiting list.

The development will be funded after plans to dismantle the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) subsidy, a complex system which redistributes tenants’ money between authorities, were revealed.
