Update: Firefighters remain at Eridge forest fire nine hours on

Firefighters are continuing to contain a large forest fire but after nine hours the operation is being scaled back.

Fire Service Land Rovers are now being withdrawn from the scene at the fire in Broadwater Forest, off Broadwater Forest Lane in Eridge.

Digging equipment is now on site where around six acres of a conifer forest have been ablaze since 11am this morning to dig fire breaks.

A its height of more than 30 firefighters were battling the flames.

Four teams of firefighters from Crowborough, Forest Row, Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead are at the scene alongside three specialist teams in 4x4 vehicles from Uckfield, Wadhurst and Heathfield.
