Shoreham couple's Pride wedding day shocker

When Julie Farrant and Keith Wheatland planned their wedding they went to great lengths to pick a quiet summer's day.

With military precision, the couple spent hours trawling lists of events to ensure their big day did not clash with anything else going on in the city.

Happy they had picked the right date, Saturday, August 7, they booked the Victorian bandstand on Brighton seafront as their pictureperfect wedding venue.

It was only when friends reported difficulty booking accommodation that the penny finally dropped.

They had chosen one of the busiest weekends of the year, the annual Pride celebration, when an estimated 150,000 revellers are expected to descend on the city.

Community nurse Julie, 31, from Shoreham was worried at first but says: "I'm quite relaxed about it now."

About 60 guests are expected to witness the first official wedding at the bandstand, or Birdcage as it is affectionately known, which was recently refurbished by Brighton and Hove City Council as part of a £1 million project.

Smart bit of promotional work by the council there. Well done!

What lists did they spend hours trawling? Can't be very good ones if they missed off the biggest event in the city's calendar.

"Military precision"!? Im sorry but there's only a couple of dates you need to avoid in Brighton. Bike Ride, Half Marathon and Pride. Pride is always the first Saturday in August. Good luck to them. (Although I would get someone to double check the groom has brought the ring).

They live locally but didn't know Brighton Pride is first Saturday of August - good way for some free publicit.

Perhaps the groom will come under friendly fire!

Why is this a story?
I thought I was going to read that the bride discovered that the groom was really a woman who was planning to announce their nuptials at Pride.
I was more than disappointed.

Hopefully they won't spend the rest of their lives in a bubble not understanding what is happening around them!

If you type Brighton August into Google the first thing that comes up is Pride. If they missed this in their precise military planning of the event I'm worried what else they forgot. They'll probably turn up ringless, in normal clothes cos they forgot to hire/buy a dress and suit, with no Registar booked and the guests going to the wrong bandstand. And then discover they've accidentally booked a flight to Iran for their honeymoon.

how on earth can you miss that date...

The bandstands not exactly on the parade route and... what time... if its after 1pm, then the town goes quiet due the numbers at the park.

terrible piece of journalism by the argus... shame on you.... yet again.
