Sussex hospitals given good food report

Hospitals across Sussex have been given a positive report from inspectors for their food and cleaning standards.

Patient Environment Action Teams (Peats) have been assessing each of the county's hospitals to see how clean they are, the quality of their food and whether patients are treated with dignity and given enough privacy.

Teams also looked at the environment and buildings including bathroom areas, lighting, floors and wards.

Peat teams have given the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton a good rating for its environment and privacy and dignity and an excellent score for its food.

The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, Worthing Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital were given a good rating in all three categories.

The best performing hospital was St Richard's in Chichester, which scored excellent in each category.

The Conquest Hospital in St Leonards was acceptable when it came to its environment and was given a good rating for its food and privacy.

Well done to the hospitals who at last seem to have got the hang of providing decent food to their patients. The next question to ask is are all patients especially the elderly infirm being helped to eat. Many patients through illness find it difficult to manage eating their food and often the meal is placed before them with no offer of help to eat.

This must be a joke. It is like all these inspections, the hospitals, clinic and elderly care homes are all told when the inspectors will visit. Then on the day before the whole place is cleaned from top to bottom.
It is like when the Primary Care Trust do inspections at GP surgeries, they give at least a weeks notice.
These whole inspections are a waste of time and money.

I had an "espresso" in Worthing hospital whilst visiting a friend with high blood platelets........ excellent is all I can say.

Why should the public trust "Patient Environment Action Teams (Peats)" any more than they trust the hospitals themselves?

Sounds like another bunch of pointless quangocrats that should be added to the bonfire.

The "County" must have new caterers doing the food these days, because when I was in coronary care a couple of years ago, the food was absolutely disgusting and I wouldn't have given it to my dog. I realise you cannot expect home cooking when the numbers being catered for are huge, but meat swimming in grease, grey potatoes and khaki broccoli are not my idea of good food, especially if the patients are feeling under the weather anyway.
I cannot fault the medical treatment ,which is of prime importance, but patients should have more tempting food to eat.

Believe that at your peril is all I can say. A recent experience with an elderly relative as the patient was far from this report.

scookie, goring... No is the answer, elderly patients food is often left out of reach, the food depositors (those who are paid to serve food) haven't got a clue. When I commented I was given an icey stare. NO wonder they try to keep everyone out at meal times.

A whitewash report but then would expect nothing else. Wish I could have faith but quite simply, I don't.
