Tourists spend £6,850 in Sussex every minute

Every minute of every day tourists spend more than £6,850 in Sussex, The Argus can reveal.

A total of £3.6 billion is injected every year into the county’s economy from holiday makers, day trippers and business travellers.

The economy of Brighton and Hove has been boosted by £693 million pounds in the last year.

The figures show every day visitors spend almost £2million in the city’s shops and businesses, meaning every minute £1,312.50 rings through tills in Brighton and Hove.

According to tourism body Tourism South East, East Sussex tourism is worth £2.1 billion and in West Sussex is worth £1.5billion. The value of tourism on Brighton and Hove’s economy has almost doubled since 1998, when it was worth £396 million a year to the city.
