Police arrest three more youths in connection with Sussex man's death

Police have arrested three more youths in connection with the death of a Sussex man involved in a freak road accident.

Mike Baker, of Granville Road, Littlehampton, was killed when the recovery breakdown truck he was a passenger in ploughed into the back of a lorry forced off the road by a stone that had been hurled at its windscreen.

Police investigating Saturday’s accident on the busy London-bound carriageway of the A20 near the Swanley Interchange in Kent, arrested a ten-year-old boy on suspicion of manslaughter on Tuesday.

Last night detectives revealed they had also arrested and quizzed two boys, aged 12 and 15, and a 13-year-old girl on suspicion of manslaughter.

All four have been bailed while inquiries continue.

Father-of-four Mr Baker, 47, his partner Sheila Bright and her pregnant daughter Paige, 17, had been on their way to visit friends in Sidcup, Kent, when they were involved in a serious accident on the M25 on Saturday morning.

Ms Bright and Paige were taken to hospital.

Mr Baker was travelling in a recovery truck towing their car when it hit a lorry that had been forced to pull over after a stone was hurled at its cab, smashing its windscreen.

He died later in hospital.

Police said they wanted to speak to a boy described as white, aged in his mid teens, who was wearing a brown-coloured top which had contrasting lighter sleeves between the elbow and cuff.

Anyone with information is urged to call Kent Police on 01622 654853 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
