A bus operator in West Sussex has been fined thousands of pounds for running late.

Flight Hallmark Ltd has three operating centres and runs an airport shuttle service to and from Gatwick Airport and local hotels.

The company was fined £6,375 by Philip Brown, the traffic commissioner for the South Eastern and Metropolitan Traffic Area, after nearly 10% of journeys ran more than five minutes late over nine days of monitoring.

Mr Brown monitored journeys between September 16 and November 11, last year.

Ten journeys out of 110 ran significantly late and one failed to operate.

A spokesman for the Office of the Traffic Commissioner said: “Mr Brown concluded that the operator had failed to operate its service in connection with the majority of those which were found by the bus compliance officer to be non-compliant.

“The Traffic Commissioner also concluded that although the operator runs a specialist service for hotel guests this does not alter its obligation to passengers to operate its bus services on time.”
