Once Panda cars carried police from job to job – now Spyders rule the roads.

This state-of-the-art three-wheeled motorbike is being used by Sussex Police to bring home road safety messages to petrolheads.

Two Can-Am Spyder roadsters are on a free loan to the force until next month.

Road policing officers are showcasing it as part of safety campaign stands at events around the county – including at Goffs Park in Crawley today.

The £15,000 Spyders have been supplied by Collison Recreational Limited of Hampshire.

The Sussex Police crash reduction team is using the bike to attract interest from motorcyclists and young drivers – the two groups of road users who are involved in most serious crashes.

Sergeant Tony Crisp, of the road policing unit at Chichester, said: “These machines are used throughout the county at show as part of our display.

“They help police officers engage with motorcyclists and young drivers.

“They ask questions about it and we talk to them about road safety.”
