A twenty second TV advert screened in doctor's surgeries has boosted demand for a potentially life saving test for cancer.
GP practices in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex have taken part in a Department of Health funded pilot project aimed at encouraging more women to have a smear test.
The seven surgeries involved said the advert, created by the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust charity, led to a significant increase in the number of women asking for the check.
After the advert had run for six weeks, there was a rise in requests for screening of up to 25%.
NHS Brighton and Hove public health specialist Martina Pickin said: “We welcome an initiative which helps to raise awareness of cervical cancer and encourage women to be screened."
