Council defends using swear word in Hastings dog poo campaign

A council has defended its use of a profanity in its latest campaign.

The anti-dog fouling project hit the streets of Hastings on Saturday to warn residents that failing to pick up dog mess will not be tolerated.

While the material advertising the campaign remains clean, the slogans which have been printed on leaflets and car stickers include a four-letter swear word with two of the letters asterisked out.

Council Leader Jeremy Birch said the council had decided to take a hard line on the subject so that residents would take the issue of dog fouling seriously.

But Marie Clair, spokeswoman for the Plain English Campaign, said the message was very 'in your face' and far too plain.

She said: “If they are trying to use shock tactics, all they have done is dumped on themselves.”

I completely agree with this campaign. Which is more offensive - the word "sh1t" or the actual crap all over the pavement?
You have not lived until you have had to scrape dog sh1te off the bare legs of a screeching child, tried to get it out of every single tread on a pair of trainers & tried to explain to a group of children why they can't play outside in the park on a lovely day because some dog owners have left SHlT ALL OVER THE PLACE.

You should have heard the profanities which came from my mouth a few weeks back when I trod on dog shi* getting out of my car in the dark, then trod it through my house on the carpets and up the stairs.
Disgusting.
Then more profanities came forth as I scrubbed it my hand from the house.

It's just a word, I find it hard to understand anyone who gets upset over a word. I also find it laughable that the Argus shied away from using the word, even with letters blanked out.
.
Get over it people! Why should language be taboo?

Dog owners should have their faces rubbed in it if they don't clean it up.
And why do some bag it and throw the bag in the road, or hang it on a tree?

Is that even a "swearword"? It's just a bit of old "anglo saxon" slang isn't it?

I was always taught that "swearing" involved some sort of blasphemy.

I saw a guy allowing his dog to foul a green space, and as it was outside my house, and he showed no signs of doing so, I politely asked him whether he was going to pick it up and remove it.
He just walked off. I went and got a bag, picked up the 'doings', followed him back to his house, and once he had gone inside, I put it through his letterbox, making sure some of it was liberally smeared around the letterbox.
I never saw him or his dog outside my house again.

If you can't look after your dog properly, you're as dumb as the animal at the end of the lead. Isn't it bad enough that a little girl may well have to have her eye removed, as some t0sser couldn't be bothered to clear up the mess it's pet made? Lazy, lazy, lazy people. When was the last time you saw a cat foul a pavement? I've noticed that it's the older person who doesn't bother to clear up. And they have the gall to moan about younger people.
