A nightclub security guard was stabbed in what was believed to be a revenge attack.

The doorman, in his 30s, suffered a deep wound in his thigh during the attack near Audio in Marine Parade, Brighton, early yesterday morning.

A Moroccan man was arrested in connection with the incident and was still in custody last night.

The trouble is said to have started after door staff realised someone was smoking cannabis on the club's terrace during the weekly Summer Of Love night.

A man was removed from the venue, but is believed to have come back and attacked the doorman with a sixinch knife in Manchester Street.

A spokesman for the club said: "Door staff were alerted to the smell of skunk, found out who it was and ejected him from the venue. He obviously wasn t content with walking off."

The doorman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he was treated for the stab wound in his left thigh.

The injuries are not thought to be lifethreatening. The club's spokesman said: I think it was quite deep on his leg. I have spoken to him and he is making a good recovery.

Sussex Police were called at about 2.05am. They said the suspect got in a car and drove away. Officers used CCTV cameras to trace its movements before pulling it over.

A 41yearold Moroccan man from Middlesex was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He was being questioned in custody last night while police investigate further.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 .
