Toaster fire sparks Worthing blaze

A piece of toast set alight starting a kitchen fire in Worthing.

The blaze in South Farm Road broke out at 7.45pm today.

A crew from Worthing fire station attended. The station's watch manager told the Argus: "A mum and her son were alerted by the smoke alarm and went outside. A neighbour called the emergency services and we're only about 90 seconds away so were there really quickly.

"We went in with breathing apparatus and used a fan to clear the smoke.

"The toaster was broken though."

How the Dickens was this fire allowed to start?! They were making TOAST, for Pete's sake, not something with real risk, like lighting an open fire or burning garden rubbish! Who are these idiots who can't be trusted with MAKING TOAST?!?!

I don't expect the toast was edible either.

zlm321 seems a tad touchy tonight, try YOUR not URE other than that burnt toast is nothing to get het up about and quite rightly the safety of your child is paramount
good job your flat is not my side of the crossing otherwise your flat could have burnt down whilst waiting for the barriers to go up
as to how to spend time, let us be fair there is a pecking order involved, having a dig at the argus and/or reporters 1st
cry free adverts 2nd
pillory or vilify kate price/chris ewbank 3rd
suggest flogging/hanging is to good for any convicted peado 4th
complain that any other sentence for any other crime is to light 5th
Having a go at the police is not rated, it is a mandatory requirement
