One dead in A27 crash

One person has been killed and another injured in an accident on the A27.

They were thrown from the car when it crashed on the eastbound carriageway close to the Southwick tunnel at around 7.30pm.

The road is currently closed eastbound between Shoreham and Shoreham Harbour.

I came through there around 6.50.
The traffic was fairly light at that time.
Sends a chill. There but for the grace of God go I & mine.

RIP to the victim & thoughts to the families of the people involved.

I agree with A Gold in regards to this heartbreaking event on the A27 last Sunday. This scenario is one we all agonize about, hoping and preying it never happens to us. Well it has happened to this family and I know all our thoughts and prayers will be with the relatives and everyone involved.
We do seem to live in a perilous county when it comes to driving on our roads, the C7 and the A26 to mention just two.

Truely awful, a great loss to Brighton. A brilliant and dedicated man. My thoughts to the family.

there is an accident here every month why aren't there cameras here? Far easier to catch people speeding down the hill after the tunnel that's why!

You seem to be suggesting excessive speed was the cause of this accident, how do you know that?? I heard recently that excessive speed is found to be the cause of less than 10% of accidents yet whenever there is an accident everyone clammers for a camera to be erected as if they are some magic formula. A father and husband died in this tragic accident so my thoughts are with those left behind, as a husband and father of 2 kids myself, getting home safely after a day on the road is my no. 1 priority. I think we should let the experts investigate this accident and not fall into the trap of blaming speed all the time, I'm sure there were witnesses to this accident who can help the police who in turn can help the family come to terms with what has happened if that is at all possible.

Speed is not always the problem - yes you are correct - but when it's on a dual carriageway I would imagine that speed has a strong influence as there are other parameters removed. My point was that the police setup their cameras at the bottom of the steep downhill section where is very rarely trouble and seem to avoid the section just by the tunnel where this are accidents much more frequently.
