Council hunt rogue dog owner in Hove

Candid camera shots have been taken of a man suspected of being responsible for a dog notorious for leaving a trail of muck around Hove.

Now Brighton and Hove City Council has urged people who witness the pooch and his or her owner to get their camera phones out and start snapping - or if possible shoot video footage of the mucky pup in the act.

The council said they are willing to prosecute the dog's owner but can only do so if they have proof the man is letting his animal go to the toilet wherever he pleases.

Some people have already got into the act and emailed footage to the council of the dark-haired man they believe is deliberately taking his dog to the area surrounding Hove train station with the sole intention of getting him to go to the toilet.

People working in Hove Business Centre have reported the man's actions via the national Fix It website - a place where issues affecting an area can be brought to the attention of a local authority.

Er, can they not do a DNA test or similar to match the poop with the pooch?

Maybe it should be collected and pushed back through his letter box. Note to dog owners, the world outside your front door isn't your dogs toilet. The story in the news recently about a 2yr old girl potentially loosing her sight in one eye because of a selfish dog owner not picking up it's mess served as a reminder, if one was needed, why you should clear it up besides the fact it's disgusting seeing footpaths and parks littered with piles of the stuff.

Dog owners are much more responsible in my area of West Sussex, they collect their dog poo and put it into plastic bags...then neatly attach the bags to trees and hedges.

only the one rogue owner?? the dog must have a real problem, then, as i'm sure it can't be responsible for ALL the mess!!!!!!!

Maybe the council could spend thousands on a counter that they could install on a needless site near the road and it could count the people walking by with a dog

i believe so, i'm sure it's responsible for the recent poops in my road. i shall keep a sharp eye out for it now. the council could run a competition to find it, a bit like spot the ball but spot the .....

We have someone up our way that does the same. You can tell its the same dog because of the size of the pile, unless its owner is taking a dump instead or is actually taking a cow for a walk.
Been trying for 3 years to catch them in the act but alas, he/she must take there dog out when everyone is asleep.

The dog owner is in fact an artist and the plops that are being carefully dumped around Hove are in fact exhibits for this years entry to the Turner Prize. A bit like Emins lost baby clothes around Folkestone.
Surely people can see it is Brit art at its best and bound to win this years prize.

I hate to break it to you but there isn't actually a national DNA database of dogs for them to check against.

I'd gladly punch the culprit in the face a few times...

Note to all non-dog owners: some of us (most of us in fact) DO pick up after our dogs and are well aware of the hazards posed by dog excrement - so try not to be such a sanctimonious t**t in future eh?

Youre all a bunch of nut cases. You walk among bird **** everyday, use public toilets often not cleaned, endure other peoples pollution which is slowly KILLING you, do very little about REAL issues like homophobia, etc etc, yet sanction all this time, energy, money, and billious comments on such a petty thing!

While I agree that, since the law says so, owners should clear up the mess, it's your attitude that's severely disturbing - you all sound like a bunch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder freaks who quickly turn to violence when you are easily repulsed by something...

Get help, or focus on something REALLY important!!

Still, Brighton's full of the unbalanced, so no surprises there.

I can assure you that the hygiene habits of my Mighty Horse are impeccable - in fact, he is almost certainly cleaner than any of you!

The only way to capture this villain is to create a rota so that the spots where this dog can be causing problems can be permanently surveyed. It seems clear that this dog owner has been using covert and subtle tactics to evade the law for so long! Upon seeing an owner with a distressing dog making messes which remain untended, there must be some kind of signal to indicate that they have been spotted. May I suggest the following song:

"Oh, hear ye, hear ye!

For the dog, the offending dog from the Argus!

It is here! It has moved its bowels!

The mess remains uncollected!

See here! See here!

There is drama, canine drama!

The dog has fouled! Trouble is afoot!

Residents of Hove! Stand up!

Stand up for Dog Foul justice!"

There is no way any dog owner would be able to allow his pet to foul the streets under such pressure.

Wow, my security word was "Ben-Fogle". What could that possibly mean?
