Man in hospital following retirement home blaze

A man has been taken to hospital following a fire at a retirement village.

The blaze broke out at 3.55am today in Deanland Wood Park in Golden Cross, near Hailsham.

Crews from Herstmonceux and Hailsham attended the blaze, the cause of which is not known. A member of staff at East Sussex’s control centre told the Argus: “Fire investigators are currently investigating the cause of the blaze.

“Foam was used to put out a static home which was well alight. An adult man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

“The fire crews left the scene at 6.20am.”
