A Brighton illustrator has come up with a quirky version of the underground map based on his home city.

From Devil’s Dyke in the north to Brighton Rock in the south, The Brighton Line maps out a tongue-in-cheek journey of the city’s real locations via a few celebrities and sports stars who seem to have finally found their station in life.

The cheeky take on the London Underground map was devised by Sean Sims, 45, and now the illustration has gone on sale at Brighton art gallery Art Republic.

Father-of-two Sean, who works for an illustrating company in London, said: “It started out as a bit of fun.

“But once I started The Brighton Line, my friends loved it and so I kept dabbling at it and this is the result.

“I think it’s the first time someone has designed a Tube map of Brighton and I hope it puts the city on the map.”

You have to look closely to spot all the quirks in the design.

Viewers can note the generous curve to Jordan’s Peak, for example, and how the line forks at Devil’s Dyke.

You can track the full circle at Greyhound Stadium while the the shape of the Northern Line echoes that of the Angel of the North.

The Hove line is called Actually, in reference to residents’ determination to maintain their independence from Brighton.

Tourists to Brighton can take the Stag and Hen line on a pub and club crawl while the pink Queen’s Circle line pays tribute to Brighton’s status as the country’s gay capital, with trains calling at Mount Pleasant and Drag Strip.
