Woman rescued from telephone box in Peacehaven

A woman had to be rescued from a telephone box after she became trapped inside.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crew from Newhaven was called to the phone box opposite the Good Companion pub, in Roderick Avenue, Peacehaven, at about 8pm yesterday.

A metal panel on the ceiling of the phone box had dropped slightly, catching the door's opening and closing mechanism.

A fire service spokesman said: “The woman was trapped in the phone box for about 40 minutes and it took us about 15 seconds to get her out. She was unharmed.”

This brought that old film back to mind, went looking for it - I would not recommend that the lady in question watch it.

at 60 p a call its not surprising that the main users of my local phone box only use it for phoning up for a deal, then wait for prompt delivery, it is also used as a toilet when the adjacent alley is full and is vandalised on a weekly basis. when it was 20p a call users trying to beg the price of a call were a nuisance, now with inflation they are an expensive nuisance.

Tammy, come on a bit of intelligence please. The woman lives in Peacehaven. Dead and Brain are the two words that come to mind.

Dead Brain? It was HER! I am concerned, 40 minutes she must have been running low on cigarettes and dying for a pee..........

Dying for a pee? That's what phone boxes are for.

Someone actually got arrested in hastings back in the summer for attempting to break into a phone box's cashbox. Don't know what he was hoping to find but he must have been desperate. Or just thick.

This is around the corner from me. All i can say is that The Argus need to find more newsworthy items.

How about the council's lack of care and interest in the upkeep of our area? We've contacte dthe argus about that in the past, and lo and behold? NO Interest.

It was .. brilliant, has stuck in my mind for the last, what 38 years now, or somehting close... and no Ii do not think Ii could watch the whole thing again.

More horror in that short film than anything I have ever seen since.

From slapstick to .. well, all who have seen have never forgotten.

There is (used to be) a telephone box grave yard on the train to London Bridge from Brighton, if you glanced left at a certain point ... always brought that film right back to mind.
