Part of Hastings Pier will be demolished

Parts of the fire ravaged Hastings Pier will be demolished in a bid to make the structure safe.

Hastings Borough Council is using emergency powers to begin work to remove dangerous debris in the next few days.

The council said they decided to step in because the pier’s owner Ravenclaw has taken no action to make it safe.

The 138-year-old Grade II listed pier was gutted in a suspected arson attack on October 5.

The council and the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) say they have not heard from the Panama-based company since the blaze which destroyed 95% of the landmark’s upper section.

All sounds a bit dodgy to me!
Still, just another one of many eyesores that make Hastings a place to avoid.

nice one, dangerous structure notices work.
now the council should get to work on a compulsory purchase, it can be argued that the structure is worthless due to the signifigant liabilities attached to it.
I will happily sent the council a £1 coin, the token value of the structure.
the council should also oversee its restoration and simply lease it to an operator, these structures are part of our heritage and an integral part of the sea front of numerous towns and cities.
How ever an alternative method of finance would be to raise funding through some form of share deal.
I for one would be happy to have a share in it.
