Hove MP Mike Weatherley has said he plans to fight a ban of displaying tobacco advertising in shops.

Mr Weatherley said he feared the ban would damage trade for small businesses.

Mr Weatherley is due to meet the Health Secretary Andrew Lansley this week.

He said small shops could have to have costly refits if the ban, voted in under the previous Government, goes ahead.

Mr Weatherley said: "“I’m a passionate anti-smoker but I’m also passionate about supporting small businesses.

“That’s why I’ll be trying to persuade Andrew Lansley that we shouldn’t implement the tobacco display ban.”
