Police have been called to a protest outside a phone shop.

Dozens of campaigners gathered outside the Vodafone store in Churchill Square shopping centre in Brighton, to protest at the company’s alleged non-payment of £6 billion in tax.

The store remained closed as members of Brighton Against The cuts protested outside.

Spokesman Rogan Johnson said: “For the last ten minutes there have been simultaneous protests in ten cities across the country.

“The tax man has lost out on £6 billion in tax.

“We do not think that is acceptable and we need to get them to pay it, especially in these times of government cutbacks.

“We do not think this is fair.”

A Vodafone spokesman has referred to the allegations as “an urban myth”.
