Sussex lollipop man banned from wearing Christmas hat

A lollipop man has been banned from wearing a comedy Christmas hat shaped like a turkey because council scrooges said it might distract drivers.

Paul Clevett wore the orange hat shaped like the festive bird while on patrol outside Forest Row Primary School, near East Grinstead.

But now Mr Clevett has been banned by East Sussex County Council from sporting the headgear amid fears it could throw drivers off course and pose a danger to their safety and the welfare of others.

Mr Clevett said he would not wear his festive hat again, despite having worn it in previous years, saying he would be in “serious trouble” if he did.

An East Sussex County Council spokesman said: “What we are talking about here is the safety of children."

Since when did any council know anything about safety?

No, what we are talking about here is County Council do-nothing Jacks-in-office who should be making sure the roads are gritted and potholes filled, but ... who area trying to distract us from their *dereliction of duty* by going after 'dangerous' lollipop people.

Sheer insanity.

Don't they make them wear Flourescent coats and give them a big lollipops so drivers are distracted and notice them.
A funny turkey hat could only make them more visible according to the council official.

So when summer comes are they going to ask the girls to cover up and stop wearing short skirts? What rubbish this is. How is it that only council staff seem to have these ridiculous views?

What we are talking about here is a serious lack of common sense, sadly lacking in the councils paid for by us, the taxpayer. On the basis that what people wear year round "could" be a distraction on any pavement or road this does not say much for the head of the council. Clearly if the head of the council felt differently they would have spoken up and corrected this failure of common sense....

An every day story in the life of a council spokesman;
A Council Spokesmen and his assistant were walking down the road when they noticed the street lights were on. "We won't turn these off as that may throw drivers off course and be a danger to children " said the CS to his assistant.
At the other end of the street the lights hadn't come on yet so the CS said to his assistant " leave these street lights off as if they come on it may throw drivers off course and cause a danger to children"
His assistant said "OK Sir, but what shall I do about the ones where the bulbs are broken, How will I know if they are on or off"
Hmm, said the CS, "Thats a difficult one, erm , err ......... I know what we can do, Wheres that bloke with the chicken on his head"
