Four masked men stole cigarettes worth £1,000 from a delivery lorry in Worthing.
The men, wearing balaclavas, approached the driver of the lorry in Wallace Parade, Goring Road, Goring, before boarding the lorry at about 6.50am on Wednesday.
After taking cigarettes, they drove away in a dark coloured Renault Megane saloon.
Sussex Police said no weapons were seen and the driver was not assaulted.
Detective Constable Andy Hobden, of Adur and Worthing CID, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was up and about in the Goring area early on Wednesday morning and who may have seen what happened or saw the car beforehand or driving away afterwards."
Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999, quoting serial 161 of January 12, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
