Christmas cards still being delivered in Brighton

Three week late Christmas cards are finally being delivered.

Brighton resident Jim May thinks he has been sent the county’s latest seasonal greeting after receiving a Christmas card yesterday.

His belated delivery follows a catalogue of slow service from the Royal Mail.

Mr May of Tivoli Crescent North, Brighton, said: “I have only just received one Christmas card. It was posted on December 10 in Canada, but even though it has come a long way this is unacceptable.

“I had one Christmas card postmarked December 16 in Shropshire that arrived on January 7. Another one that also arrived on January 7 had been posted at Gatwick on December 21.

“I am pleased that The Argus is highlighting the appalling service that the people of Brighton have been enduring from the Post Office delivery service over the last month."

The Royal Mail apologised to customers who had experienced delays and said they were hoping to introduce “changes to improve the service” at the North Road collection office.

interesting that Mr May blames Royal Mail for a delayed letter assumably posted in Canada via Canada Post ? Granted Royal Mail may handle the final delivery but why is it not possible that it was delayed in Canada. I have holidayed in Canada sent a card to a relative in the UK thats not arrived for three weeks after my returning home. Seems a rather petty and unnecessary story...prhaps Mr May is one of those un patriotic people who thinks RM may fair better onder foreign ownership ? And incidently the Chair of RM is Moya Greene former CEO of.....Canada Post !
happy days.

What's he complaining for? It's not like *he's* had to pay for the service! (Note - tongue very firmly in cheek)

Epiphany, I live in Canada and I received a Christmas card from my friend on the Isle of Wight on 13 January - it was posted 20 December! I seem to remember that there were many cancelled flights around that time - due to snow in the UK, not in Canada! We know how to function in winter weather - you don't! I hardly think Canada Post is to blame for mail delays in the UK!

I'm still waiting for a DVD that was posted first class from Jersey on 29th December. Its strange how many parcels go missing over the Christmas period. Not!

Not only have I had to cancel two cheques for non-delivery but I have also had to pay two credit card companies for non-payment.

The cheques were posted during the second week of December........

On-line banking is a wonderful facility.

Wouldn't trust on-line banking at all. Back to the subject, I am still waiting for some flowers, posted in Jersey on 3rd December. They have either graced another home or are now somewhere else, goodness knows where, looking very sad.

You are not alone, many people are frightened by technology.

I tend to be a little reluctant to lay in to the Royal Mail. I think we have a tendency to take their service for granted. Not long ago I was out when a private courier attempted to deliver a parcel. When I phoned to ask if I could pick it up in person I was told the depot was in Maidstone! They said they could re-deliver but if I wanted them to call on a Saturday when I would be at home I would have to pay a further £15. They also refused to deliver to any other address apart from my own.

At least the Royal Mail have a really comprehensive network of offices and one is rarely that far away from one, and there is always a postbox nearby.

If the service is privatised it will be broken up and cherry picked by private companies and then we will realise what we have lost.

Yes, they have to got to get their act together otherwise the case for privatisation will become formidable. But, I believe that would be a serious mistake.
