A railway station is in line for a multi-million pound facelift.
Campaigners have welcomed the news after more than a decade of lobbying for a revamp of Hassocks station.
Hassocks Amenity Association has campaigned for improved facilities, including disability access, at the station.
Robert Sue, Network Rail commercial schemes sponsor for Sussex, announced almost £3 million has been allocated for the village station improvements.
It said £1.25 million will be used to rebuild the station under the Department for Transport’s National Station Improvement Programme.
A further £1.6 million, from the Access for All scheme, will be used to install step-free access.
A spokeswoman for the association said the news is the “result of more than ten years’ campaign work by the rail group.”
She said the new accessible station is planned for 2012.
