Brighton bus stop given woolly makeover

Relax and take your time - you can have a good old yarn at this bus stop.

A stroll along Brighton seafront has been brightened up thanks to this knitted creation.

The bus stop, opposite the Old Ship Hotel in King’s Road, has been given a woolly makeover, prompting dozens of calls to The Argus from the city’s tight-knit community.

The man behind the knitted bus stop is Alan Moon, 63, from Cocoon Knits in George Street, Hove – a shop which is rising to fame thanks to its handy needlework.

Alan and his group of knitters, known as the ‘knitter natters’, covered the bus stop to raise awareness for a new campaign which aims to knit a cover for a double-decker bus.

He is now looking for volunteer knitters to knit 4,000 colourful squares for the bus.

Each knitter will collect sponsors and knit a minimum of three 15cm x 15cm squares. The minimum sponsorship amount is £25 per entry and all money will go to the Martlets Hospice in Hove.
