10:05am Friday 11th February 2011

A BRAVE postman was injured as he tried to stop a robber taking his van.

At around 6pm on February 6 the postman was collecting mail from a post box on Whittle Street in Walkden when he was dragged out of his van.

The robber got in the van and strated to drive off.

The victim tried to stop him by jumping on the bonnet and was driven approximately 50 yards before he fell off onto the pavement.

He received minor injuries.

The robber drove off and later abandoned the vehicle on Manchester Road.

Det Con Neil Jones from Salford CID said: "The offender clearly had no concern for the safety of the postal worker and fortunately the postman was not injured, but this robbery could have ended in tragedy.

"We believe there may have been a number of people in the area at that time and I urge anyone who may have seen the van either on Whittle Street or Manchester Road to contact us."

The robber is described as being white, 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a black woolly hat and a navy blue or black scarf over his face.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 0161 856 5360 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
