This is “highly dangerous” Antonio Batsimba who attacked two men with a machete in an unprovoked attack.

Today he was jailed for nine years at Hove Crown Court.

However, he will only be released when he is no longer deemed a danger to the public.

Batsimba, 22, nearly killed the men following a late night brawl in Crawley town centre in September last year.

He was found guilty of attempted murder at Hove Crown Court on September 15. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm at an earlier hearing.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley, of Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, said: "Batsimba has received a substantial prison sentence for his brutal and unprovoked attack on these two men, both of whom may never get over the impact of what happened to them during the assault.

"I hope this sentence will act as a deterrent for others intent on using violence."

Two men received serious head injuries after being attacked with a machete in Memorial Gardens causing the pair injuries which were thought to be life-threatening at the time. A third man was also seriously injured during the incident.

Judge David Rennie said: “He is a highly dangerous young man who behaved in a sickeningly violent manner.”

Batsimba is from Dagenham.
