Work to replace part of the deck of Brighton's Palace Pier will begin this summer.
The boat deck structure, which was built in the 1930s and supports Horatio’s Bar, will be replaced after a survey found parts had rusted and become worn.
Work on the project is due to start on May 3 subject to listed building consent and is expected to take up to nine months.
A total of 36 piles underneath the structure will be replaced by 24 steel piles surrounded by precast reinforced jackets. A new deck structure will be built.
Pier bosses said the attraction would remain open throughout but the area of work will be cordoned off by painted boards.
Nick Clarke, who is responsible for maritime projects at Gifford, which designed the replacement programme, said: “The key challenge for this project is to minimise the potential disruption to the business of the pier.”

Typial - starting the work just when the visitor season is beginning. They must have been taking lessons from the council who start major road works in the summer.
Love the security words - tear-hole

The National Piers Society REFUSE to allow a name change from Palace Pier to Brighton Pier.... end of. It IS and always will be - PALACE PIER - regardless of what the owners want to erect as signs. http://www.piers.org .uk/pierpages/NPS0re gionssurv.html

They only opposed the name change BUT as the Nobles own it they can call it what they want.
Any work would have to be done in good weather and calm seas so a nine month plan is bound to run over some summer months whenever it is done.
Think about the taxes and wages they are giving to our town before slagging off people who actually have a stake in Brighton as a tourist attraction, or you could always carry on being so supportive of our fine city

Who cares what it's called? It's an overrated, over-priced piece of stinking architecture that will hopefully, when the next storm arrives, be banished into the turd-infested waters, much like your other one. Clowns.
