Worthing woman who pretended she had cancer for money escapes jail

A woman who admitted defrauding Cancer Research after falsely claiming she was dying of the disease escaped jail today.

Caroline Bull instead was told to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after appearing at Hove Crown Court. Bull, 37, of Amo Mews, Worthing, was also sentenced after she admitted stealing £8,514.76 from her employer H & R Healthcare in sickness pay at an earlier hearing at Lewes Crown Court on 13 July.

Detective Constable Leon Ryan said: "People donated money in good faith, moved through compassion for a friend they believed was in pain and suffering.

“Bull's deception saw no end and she took full advantage of the trust and kindness of her friends and employer, even asking friends to have a tattoo 'in her memory'.”

With the ruling today on insurance etc lets hope it won't be long before Women enjoy the same longer sentencing as Men when they break the law

I hope she has to do her unpaid work at a Hospice, then she will have some understanding of what it is like to have cancer!

I totally agree with Flipper. Being a recovering cancer sufferer myself, I think she has got off lightly and if she did have to work her time in a hospice, let us hope she would learn that cancer is not a thing to lie about in order to obtain money. No amount of money would compensate me, I would rather have good health. Wicked woman!

maybe if the argus printed the truth about the case, then maybe people won't jump on the bandwagon.Mrs Bull had mental health issues at the time,no mention of that, maybe if she never had friends who wanted too bask in the limelight of a friend who was mentally ill maybe the mental illness would never had lasted as long as it did.TRY READING THE COURT TRANSCRIPTS AND PRINT THE TRUTH.

she claimed depression, so what I know a number of people with mental health issues none of them stoop to con their friends and workmates by claiming to be dying. she was claiming cancer not mental health issues, she had sick leave for an extended time.
get real and face facts she abused the trust of those around her including those who got a tattoo to remind them of her.
200 hours, she got off light and her demenor in a TV interveiw did nothing to to give the opinion that she seriously regreted her actions.
like a drug dealer with a long history in worthing who this week was given a 2 year drug testing order for getting caught with a load of brown and white split ready to sell and £800 in cash, she has got off light, the system is balanced in favour of the criminal as long as you claim illness or "I was forced to do it but I cant tell you by who as they would kill me"
(a good excuse when caught shop lifting in tesco at durrington, involving a foreign person adds to the flavour)
BullS*** abounds

just goes to show how narrow minded and bigoted people can be....you know nothing mr steed, what's a drug dealer or shoplifter got to do with her case? maybe if you knew the whole truth instead of reading a one sided view your opinion might change and then you could write valid comments instead of garbage! as you say bulls***abounds.
