We saw the whole of the moon

It happens once in a blue moon and has left people waxing lyrical.

And luckily Argus photographer Eddie Mitchell was on hand to snap the whole of the supermoon.

This stunning picture was taken from the end of Worthing Pier looking out towards Beachy Head.

He said: “It was a really amazing sight. There was a group of us huddled together at the end of the pier all snapping away. I’ve never seen the moon looking that spectacular in my life.”

Eddie took the picture using a 600mm lenses with a 1.4 extender using an iso speed of 1250 and a shutter speed of an 80th of a second with an F8 aperture.

Too much information Argus, you've gone from not enough, to information overload, we are not all camera geeks!

I took a photo with my digital point and shoot camera - none of this technical mumbo jumbo, and it turned out just fine.

If the Argus told us smothing about why the moon was so spectacular we might all learn something.

What a miserable lot you are! How about a positive comment such as, "great picture!". These people took the trouble to show us their art-work and all you can do is boast about your own cameras!

I think Eddie should keep his 1.4 extender to himself.

It's a VERY VERY VERY predictable picture, there really isn't much more to say about it, seen ones like it a 1000 times in every poster shop, perhaps that's why we aren't impressed by it!

It's also looks like it's had a trip thru photoshop as it certainly wasn't that colour!

Eddie Mitchell is a very talented photographer whose pictures in the Argus are notably superior to the usual run of aim and shoot stuff. This photo of the supermoon (orange soon after rising and only silver and smaller once up higher) is beautiful and very much the stuff of posters. I assume the Argus WILL make a poster of it to sell.....

Er....yes it was. I saw it at about 6.30 last night in Clayton (before it had got properly dark) and was that colour, and it then went even redder hue than that. No photoshop - just my two eyes.

Yes it is a good picture - hopefully the photographer will ignore some the self-satisfied bores on here.....

Not going to criticise the picture as it's far better than I could do, just the head line. No Argus We didn't see the whole of The Moon because it is a sphere.

miserable lot is right. Life's easier that way - always disappointed. Well the moon was awesome last night coming over Palace Pier, and it WAS that colour. Didn't have my camera so snapped away on mobile, not great but wanted a record of the event (closest the moon has been to Earth for over 20 years). Thankfully the Argus, being a paper of record has provided us with a beautiful picture.
Thanks.

i was pleased with the info on how he captured the moon as im a new ambitious photographer learning as i go. all teachings are helpful. thank you.
And its a shame that any article or nice you tube video has to attract poisonous little dwarves with nothing better to do than make snide mean little comments. get a life !

The cheese is made of the moon
and the moon is made of the cheese
and the things that I don't know
are eating up all of the bees.

Bees are yellow and so is cheese
Cheese is yellow and so is the moon

It was most certainly that colour when i saw it at 6.40pm on my way over the top of the racehill. Quite a spectacular sight, and if anything the photograph does little justice to it... although a low res jpeg on a website rarely shows the true quality of a photograph. I have to agree with the other post on here - most readers would perhaps like to have learned that the moon was at it's closest point in its cycle to the earth, and that the apparent large size when it is low on the horizon is in part down to an optical illusion caused by the eye comparing it to silhouetted foreground objects.
