This is set to be a record year for abandoned animals.
Charities are launching a desperate appeal for people to adopt as centres struggle to cope with an influx of dumped pets.
Cats Protection, which has its headquarters at Haywards Heath, said it expects to take in more kittens than they can house.
A spokesman said: “The peak season is usually around May.
“We had more than 200 last year and this year we think it will be even worse.”
