An ardent fan of Brighton and Hove Albion travelled more than 10,000 miles to watch his beloved team.

Daniel Rawlings moved to Melbourne, Australia ten years ago but has continued to follow the Seagulls.

Yesterday, the 36-year-old and his brother Ben watched their side take on Southampton at Withdean Stadium.

Despite losing 2-1, Mr Rawlings still thought the game was the highlight of his trip.

The IT operations manager said: “I came over just for this. It coincided with a visit to see my family.

“I have supported them for ten years. I still support them over in Australia. But normally I am on the internet walking up my wife Kristy.

“This day is massive. It is the highlight of my trip. I'm normally listening to the matches in bed.

“It was not the result we wanted but it was still great to be here.”

Also at the game were DJ Norman 'Fatboy Slim' Cook and Albion chairman Tony Bloom.

Mr Rawlings was worried he would not have an Argus poster and goodie bag to take home with him.

However, we gave him the limited edition poster “Seagulls: We are the champions” to return to Australia with.

Scores of fans waved our 'We kept up - we're going up as champions' and 'Seagulls - we are champions' posters at the game.
