Royal Wedding bags windfall for Sussex trainer

A horse called Royal Wedding has given punters even more reason to celebrate William and Kate's big day by winning a race in Sussex.

Britain's bookmakers are facing a multimillion-pound payout after it romped to victory in the 5.30pm race at Fontwell on Friday.

The nine year old, trained locally by Nick Gifford and ridden by Grand National-winning jockey Liam Treadwell, won the Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer Chase.

David Stevens of Coral bookmakers said: "On the day Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot there was only going to be one winner of the race, and Royal Wedding didn't let the side down, becoming the most aptly named winner since Party Politics won the Grand National five days before the 1992 general election."

He added: "Thousands of people placed bets on Royal Wedding, and the bookies will be paying out millions as a result.

"Who knows: maybe some of the royal guests even had a flutter? After all, the winnings might help towards those wedding costs."

David Williams of Ladbrokes bookmakers said: "Madame Fate has given us one hell of a kick in the crown jewels.

"Royal Wedding backers are over the moon. The horse began to drift in the betting market but the royal gods had other ideas.

"Loyal royalists who kept the faith have scooped a small fortune."

Royal Wedding, owned by Don Trangmar, was trained at Findon by Nick Gifford and ridden by Liam Treadwell.

Being a totally soppy old guillable fool, i saw this report in my Sun Newspaper yesterday and thought i'd raid my piggy bank and have a sentimental flutter on Royal Wedding at Fontwell, well it was fantastic to have one over one hundred pounds and i'll be putting that towards the next pride event in August!
