Video: Thousands of young people marched through Brighton for the annual Children’s Parade.

This year’s theme was Rights of the Child and everyone put in a huge amount of effort.

Peacocks mixed with French artists while youngsters dressed in pyjamas banged drums for the event which kick-starts Brighton Festival.

The parade kicked off at 10.30am in Sydney Street and ended in Madeira Drive.

University of Brighton student Rebecca Gomez helps at Stanford Infant School in Highcroft Villas, Brighton.

She dressed as a peacock – the school’s theme was Noah’s Ark.

Rebecca, 18, said: “I really enjoyed it. It is wonderful and everyone has made such a huge effort.”

Rose Gobley, ten, dressed in nightwear – complete with bed hat – for the big day.

Tara Fowler, dressed as an artist in a beret and carrying a paint-splattered easel, was with her father Keith Fowler.

Tara, nine, said: “I am really enjoying myself. It is good fun.”

Mr Fowler, who lives in Hollingdean, was also dressed as an artist for the occasion – and had even drawn on a fake moustache. He said: “It is brilliant.”

Carden Primary nursery nurses Janet McCord and Veronica Thomson held a banner advertising their school.
