Rowdy teenagers hold all night parties in South Down National Park

Teenager are holding “rowdy” all-night parties while illegally camping on land within a national park.

Youngsters have been seen walking up Southwick Hill in Portslade with camping gear on Friday evenings for a weekend of celebration.

Residents have reported hearing music into the early hours with dozens of abandoned cans and bottles littered across the countryside.

Police and National Trust officers are now conducting searches of the area to track down the culprits.

Reports of the late-night parties were first made a couple of weeks ago.

However, neighbours have said the music gets louder and rubbish increases every weekend.

A National Trust spokeswoman confirmed it was aware of the situation and had been in touch with police.

Teams are now clearing the area of rubbish while officers from both bodies are also conducting patrols to track down those responsible.

The land, which falls within the South Downs National Park, belongs to the National Trust.

It should be designated as public land but a by-law makes camping illegal in the area.A spokeswoman for South Downs National Park authority said it would work with the landowner to ensure it could limit the damage.

Seems as if drunken teenagers are also writing the news on the Argus website.

So the police quickly clamp down on teenagers who set up camp for 1 night but leave alone the illegal gypsy sites for weeks sometimes months on end. There is something very very wrong here, would a policeman or councellor like to explain please??
Okay, the 'teens' may leave a bit of mess which would take perhaps a morning to clear up, slightly unnacceptable, but the gyps leave mess which is totally disgusting and totally unacceptable and usually cost thousands to the tax payer.
If I was a householder living near there I know which 'set' of people id rather have.
what standards do we set these 'teens' when gyps can do it for weeks but they cant do it for 1 night?

It is rather odd that the various agencies get stuck into this issue but an increasing number of travellers are arriving in Wild Park.
When the first three caravans arrived a lone police car parked up on the road and the officers watched as a few blokes got the jack out and started putting down the legs on the caravans.
The grown ups are giving kids a mixed message.

dcsussex, no one should be doing it at all for 1 night or longer, it all costs the council tax payer money to clear it up. fine if the 1 nighters clear up their mess and do not disturb anyone, but we all know darling teenagers today take no responsibility because their parents dont let them.

easy target, easier to deal with than a bunch of lairy doasyoulikies.
give the teenagers a bit of advice by all means suggest the rubbish is dealt with responsibly but a few kids in tents minding there own, reminds me of my scouting days, when the local landowner was helpfull and beer couldnt be obtained by 14 year olds unless it was ginger beer, yes in those days a few 14 year olds could safely camp out with out worrying about old bill, kiddy fidlers or boy racers stoned off their heads torching cars, yes society has come along way since then

BUGEYE your clearly missing the point here, are you drunk?
No-one should be making a mess just to clarify that for you.

The point is why do the police clamp down on these 'teens and not the disgusting gypsys that camp up. I want to know why this can be ok for one type of person and not another.

Teens actually setting up camp shows they are pretty together, leave 'em alone. If the musics too loud ask them to turn it down, jesus. Has anyone even talked to them?

Or how about the council send some big bins up there. They do it for the gyps, so why not the kids?
No doubt the new wild park human rats will get their bins soon.

These kids are absolute scum. Don't blame the parents because 87.3 percent of them only have one, so the plural is superfluous.

If their scum-mums were more pre-occupied with contraception as opposed to cheap ciggies, bottles of Hooch and casual sex, then these hooligans would not have been born at all.

Mindless, drunken yobs who frankly deserve to be publically whipped.

Anyone noticed that you can't post comments to any more recent Argus articles? Even the awful overnight repeats from the Fire Service and Police websites have had their byline and comments removed (probably because they said "what a load of rubbish")

Censorship is alive and well in 2011

We have had our van vandalised for the past two weekends possibly by these people passing through to their night out on the Downs. At least £150.00 to replace the mirror and we were not the only victims other vehicles and lights from peoples gardens were damaged too.

clearly sir.. you are a tw*t! I am from a reasonably well off background as are plenty of my friends and we used to enjoy nothing more than camping out and getting drunk on a weekend in the countryside! (because of course, 'rowdy teenagers' are clearly a new breed! teenagers have always been rowdy in my experience! it's half the fun!) and yes, I'd rather have kids having a party than gyppo's 'circling the wagons' up there..

hear hear! hey, they aren't nicking anything, or in town fighting, or really causing too much bother at all.. tell them to bin the crap they leave behind and possibly turn it down a bit if it gets out of hand and there you go! seeing as there's bugger all for teens to do in the evening in Portslade anyway at least this keeps them off the streets! crikey.. is this the middle ages?? it seems that people have forgotten what it's like to be young! and it's hardly a rave going on up there is it (if it was I might start attending!)

A little bit of rubbish from a rave is nothing compared to the filthy mess planned by Northern Petrolium PLC when they drill fof OIL at Markwells Wood on the South Downs near Chichester..That will be serious ****~have no doubt!
All you whingers should whine about this one, eh??
