A Banksy mural found on a wall in Beddington has reappeared on a Channel 4 TV show.

And the buyers of the mural daubed on the side of a construction site wall turned down an offer for £240,000 for it last night.

The spray-painted Banksy picture appeared on the border of Croydon and Sutton and was a critique of flat-pack furniture giant IKEA.

The image depicted a punk rocker putting together a flat-pack IEAK graffiti slogan on a wall in Beddington Farm Road in 2009.

Collectors Bradley Ridge and Nick Loizou, spent more than £30k having the three-tonne mural excavated and renovated after it was targeted by vandals.

The pair worked night and day for 10 days to excavate the piece which was a harder task than they initially thought – the wall turned out to be 9in reinforced concrete.

The restaurateur and his graphic designer friend bought the wall hoping it would fetch £500,000 and applied for the new Channel 4 show Four Rooms to try and sell it.

On the show the guests approach four different collectors and antique dealers and negotiate a price for their collectables.

Mr Loizou and Mr Ridge were initially offered £75,000 by dealer Andrew Lamberty.

However, the pair had already told the show they were not keen on accepting anything under six figures.

Next up was art and design dealer Jeffrey Salmon who started with an offer of £150,000 but eventually went up to a staggering £240,000.

Despite the £210,000 profit for the mural the pair turned Mr Salmon down and got markedly lower offers from the remaining dealers.

A show insider said: “They indicated to us they wanted about six figures for the wall and said they’d be happy walking away with around £300,0000. But when they got in the room they said they would not take anything less than £375,000.

“The pair refused all the offers but must have had a change of heart after the show.”

According to the insider the pair tried to contact the dealers after the programme was filmed to try and take up the offer but were refused due to strict contract agreements with the production company, talkbackThames.
