A mini tornado circled above seas along the Brighton coast this morning.

The mini twister was spotted spiralling over the sea close to the Brighton coast at around 10am this morning.

Rafe Oxley spotted the natural phenomena which lasted for only a few minutes as he walked over Hollingbury hill fort.

He said: “It was quite thin and narrow but it stretched all the way down to the sea.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in Brighton before.”

A Met Office spokesman said the twister was caused by convection currents in gathering storm clouds and that winds inside the tornado could reach up to 60mph.
