A residents’ association has condemned a proposed college development.
Hill Barn Residents’ Association in Worthing has written to Peter Corrigan, principal at Worthing College, to express grave concerns over plans to relocate the college to the former Norwich Union headquarters in the town.
The college wants to develop existing buildings to create classrooms, restaurants and coffee bars, an arts centre and a gym at the 18-acre site at The Warren, off Hill Barn Lane, Broadwater.
Under the plan more homes would also be built at The Warren.
But Hill Barn Residents’ Association says that the move would lead to greater congestion and pollution in the area.
The association said that the new houses would be a “gross overdevelopment”.
Mr Corrigan told The Argus that the concerns were “not a huge surprise”.
He said: “We will take on board residents’ concerns and do our best to answer them. We want to build a good relationship with the community.
“We plan to be a major presence in the area for the next 40 years. It’s not just about winning a planning application.”
The college will meet with the residents’ association on June 21 to discuss the concerns.
