Detectives are putting up posters across Kemp Town of a man they want to speak to in connection with two attempted rapes.

The latest appeal for information comes two weeks after the first attack.

About 75 posters will be placed at key points in the area, including the Amex offices in Edward Street and the nearby courts.

They will feature the latest colour CCTV image of a man they want to speak to. The image was taken shortly before the first attack on June 22.

A 26-year-old woman was followed by a man along Edward Street before being dragged to the g round and assaulted in Park Street at about 3am.

He only fled when a cyclist heard her screams and intervened.

Police initially suspected the attacker struck on his way home from a night out.

However, after tracing CCTV footage they believe the man had walked in a loop around the area in the minutes before the attack.

The posters will also feature a CCTV picture taken on the night of the second attack on June 26.

A man tried to talk to the victim outside Convenience Corner in St James’s Street at about 3.15am.

As she tried to walk away he led her by the arm to a nearby recycling area in Upper Rock Gardens, where he tried to rape her.

Detectives said they received “a number of lines of inquiry” after officers took to the streets on Saturday night.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “We want to thank the public. We have had lots of calls from residents and local businesses and they have really taken note of the picture that we showed them on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“We are very pleased with the public response. We have lots of lines of inquiry that we are looking into.

“It has been very fruitful.”

The man is described as white, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in and stocky.

He speaks with a foreign accent but is believed to live locally.

Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting Operation Plymouth.
