People will be partying in the park in September.

The organisers of this year’s Shakedown Festival, which was originally due to be held this month, were yesterday g ranted permission to hold the event in Stanmer Park, Brighton, on September 17.

It will run from 2pm until 11.30pm.

Brighton and Hove City Council gave Shakedown permission to use the park after hearing about its safety and traffic plans.

Shakedown bosses have been g ranted permission to use Brighton Racecourse as a park and ride.

About 1,000 cars will be able to park there so revellers can catch buses to the park.

The festival will be headlined by Razorlight.

The organisers also hope to sign up DJ Mark Ronson to appear and a string of top names, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

Shakedown organiser Matt Priest said he was delighted with the news.

He said: “The landlord, the council, g ranted us permission again to use Stanmer Park.

“We had rewritten our event plan and made some fairly fundamental changes.

“We have also reapplied for a licence, although it will be a couple of weeks before we hear about this.

“We now have a much more robust traffic management plan. There will be a park and ride.

“Stanmer Park is a beautiful space but there are challenges in terms of access.

“But we have really invested time and energy into it and hope it will be great. Razorlight are headlining and we have one or two names to add.

“It’s been a hard journey but Shakedown is going to become the festival Brighton richly deserves.”
