Model-turned-TV presenter Annabel Giles has revealed she intends to sell her home to pay for her autistic son’s school fees.

The mother-of-two said it would be the only way she could afford to pay for 13-year-old Ted to go to £10,366-a-term Stanbridge Earls School in Romsey, Hampshire.

The school caters for children with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.

Miss Giles, 52, who lives in the East Cliff conservation area in Brighton, said: I’ve got quite a lot of collateral in it, certainly enough to fund the next two years’ fees.

“The school has said that once he’s established there, he stands more of a chance of a bigger bursary as other funded children leave.

“I won’t get another mortgage, because I’ve had no earnings to speak of over the last three years. So I’ll come off the property ladder and rent instead.”

Miss Giles also said she intended to start or buy a business to provide herself with a regular income.

She said: “Being this poor is horrible, just trying to make ends meet is such a strain, especially when you’re supporting a child. I feel bad that I can’t provide for him without losing our home, but I feel good that I am giving him what he needs.”

Since posting the blog Miss Giles has received many offers of help from her followers on Twitter.

However she said she did not think it was right to take money from people and instead urged them to donate to Brighton-based charity Amaze, which supports parents of children with special needs and disabilities.

She said: “The thing is, it was never an appeal for money.

“I was just explaining to the concerned 10-15 or so tweeters why I was selling my house to pay for Ted’s school. I had no idea it would take off like this.”

Ted suffers from 47,XYY syndrome, which means he has an extra Y-chromosome.

He also has mild Asperger’s syndrome and has an inoperable cavernoma, an abnormal collection of blood vessels in his brain which could burst at any time, leading to a stroke or death.

He is currently a pupil at St Aubyn’s School in Rottingdean.

Miss Giles said: “Ted loved the school, and blossomed.”
