Fourth child targeted by stranger in black car

Another child has reported being approached by a man in a black car this morning.

The 12-year-old is the fourth child to be asked if he wants to get in the car with the stranger close to a school.

Police were called at 7.53am and told that the boy had been approached in Test Road, Sompting, by a man who opened the car door and asked him to get into the car.

The boy ran from the area and returned to his home nearby.

The man has been described by the boy as driving a small black car, white, bald, of big build and a with a croaky voice.

On Tuesday an 11-year-old girl was approached by a man in a black car at the junction of Abbey Road and St George's Road, Brighton, and asked if she wanted a lift.

The previous Friday a ten-year-old girl was approached by a man, again, in a black car, believed to be a mini in Wilbury Crescent Hove.

Days before that another young girl said a stranger had talked to her in Patcham.

Officers are today in Sompting trying to locate the man Detective Inspector Russ Sheppard of Worthing Response Investigation Team said: "The boy did the right thing by leaving the area immediately, going to a safe place and telling his parents what had happened.

"Although there are three incidents in the Brighton area which police are investigating regarding men in black cars offering lifts to school girls, the description of the man in this report is not consistent with those.

"Police have received an increase in reports of suspicious activity after schools and the media have reported on these incidents and police have been visiting schools to talk to the children about how to keep safe."

Anyone with information about this incident or any others is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 246 of 21/7 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Unfortunately a message has been circulated by text amongst parents which has significantly increased tensions. The origins of this text are unknown. Some parents have unfortunately taken matters into their own hands tackling drivers they believe to be paedophiles.

Police recommend that parents remind take responsibility for their childs safety and that they reinforce the 'stranger danger' message.

If convicted paedophiles had a large cross burned into their foreheads then we'd all know who they are.

Streets are usually fairly busy when children are going to school. Why are the four children the only witnesses?

It's amazing how quickly something like this turns into a frenzy and sort of like a witch hunt.
I agree with Tammy though....there should really be some extra witnesses, and also, maybe some of these reports have been fabricated slightly?
Big, fat, bald with a croaky voice is almost like the stereo-typical peado for a start!

I don't believe a word of it.
Apparantly we are looking for a black bald white man with a croaky voice, who drives a black ford mini.......hmmmm

The fact is that most children are physically, sexually and mentally abused by their parents or other members of their own family. This 'stranger danger' nonsense is the remnant of an ill-conceived advertising campaign from the 1980's.

My goodness you should all be ashamed of yourselves! Why are you all so cynical, god forbid if anything does happen to a child you'd probably still blame the child!

Hit the nail on the head. I have been posting the same thing for the last day ladybird82. They seem to think it's a joke, a laughing matter.

Agree on both counts!! I posted on here at the weekend when an earlier attempt to entice a child into a car was reported on. People were making a joke of it and when I responded I was basically told to stop whinging!! Papa-Melons, your comment in response to Billy-Joles post is a disgrace. It is YOU that should be ashamed.
Billy-Jole, ignore the small minded comments on here. Many many people are concerned with this situation and I hope this person is soon caught.

The majority of parents believe children should start learning about sex and relationships when they are eight years old, a survey suggests.

Almost half (49.2%) said lessons on the topic should begin between the ages of eight and 12, while a further three in 10 (30.5%) said they should start when pupils are aged 12 to 15.

But one in seven parents (13.9%) said that youngsters should begin learning about sex and relationships between the ages of five and eight, while 4.1% said that under-fives should be given classes.

One in eight (12.1%) said that school sex education lessons will result in more children becoming sexually active at a young age, but more than two-thirds (69.7%) did not think this would be the case.

The findings are contained in a survey of more than 1,377 parents by the Netmums parenting website.

The poll reveals the issues parents most want their children to learn about in personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) lessons.

It comes just days after the Government launched a review of PSHE, looking at the content and quality of the lessons.

The Netmums survey found that more parents think primary school children should be taught about topics such as environmental issues and religion than think they should be taught about sex.

Almost half (48.9%) of those questioned said religion should be included in primary PSHE classes, while around two thirds (66.2%) wanted to see the environment covered. Just more than a third (34.4%) wanted to see sex included.

The most popular topics parents want to see in primary PSHE lessons are bullying, personal safety and friendships.

back in 2006 a parent made complaints and expressed concerns to the police,(was ignored by the police)a man in a black car followed a 10year old child from a school, not knowing the parent was walking not far behind, the same black car was also seen driving slowly past the childs home,on another day,the parent later came across the bald headed man again whilst he was in his black car..and approached him,had a word with the man who followed the child, he had a soft croaky voice(as if he was not used to be vocal) then he quickly became agressive by snarling at the parent and made a sexually obscene gesture, what adirty nonce for doing that ! coincedence?? , i hope the innocent drivers of black cars and parents get the dirty peado before the police do !!!...

Ever thought the 14 year old you insulted might be dyslexic? and Even though their grammer and spelling may be shocking, the childs view and account is as valid as yours!!!
