A former air stewardess who was duped out of £57,000 by a conman will appear on television to warn others.
Divorcee Brenda Parke, 60, was conned out of the money by a man she met on an internet dating site.
Ms Parke, from West Sussex, told The Argus last year he won her confidence after chatting to him three times a day by email and on the phone.
He claimed his daughter had been involved in an accident while he was on a business trip in West Africa and pleaded with her to help him out.
After she gave him £9,600 towards hospital fees he persuaded her to part with £22,000 for business taxes and more money to pay for flights.
Ms Parke, who had a successful career in tourism, said: “He inveigled his way into my emotions.
“I was very subtly, very cleverly on his part, put into a position of responsibility for his daughter.
“Once you have sent that first amount of money that is the biggest mistake.”
She will appear in the Channel 4 documentary 419: The Internet Romance Scam.
The title of the show takes its name after the number for fraud in Nigeria’s penal code.
The documentary will be screened on Friday at 7.30pm.
