Showbusiness is a fickle world.

One minute you are hanging out with the stars and the next you are homeless.

That has been the fate of poor Berry, a ten-year-old German Shepherd who shot to fame in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

The black dog starred alongside Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe as the animal form of wizard Sirius Black, played by Gary Oldman.

However his owner stuntman Paul Thompson can no longer look after him because his job means he has to spend large amounts of time away from home.

So Berry and his friend Porridge, a 13-year-old German Shepherd, are now being fostered by East Sussex couple Les and Christine Newman through the charity German Shepherd Dog Rescue.

Porridge is also used to being in front of the cameras, after starring in The Bill and the TV adaptation of White Teeth.

Mrs Newman said: “They are amazing dogs. They love people, they love other dogs, they get on with cats and they love children.

“They are really good dogs and would fit in with almost any family. Obviously because they are quite elderly they would probably be suited to a quieter home.

“They like each other a lot and in the morning Porridge will wash Berry’s face.”

Mrs Newman said most people are not aware of Berry’s film-star past.

She said: “We don’t really tell many people but everyone loves them.

“They are very well behaved because they have been trained to a high standard.

“They are just adorable. They want to be loved and taken out for short walks and be comfortable in their retirement.

“Anyone who meets them will want them.”
