A group of homeless men who have set up home on a golf course are threatening any intruders to their makeshift camp with legal action.

The men have been sleeping in archways on the pitch and putt course at Kingsway Multi-Play in Hove seafront since Saturday, October 8.

The men, who are using tarpaulin and polystyrene boards to protect themselves from the elements, have taped a legal warning to the outside of their homemade shelter expressing their rights to the site.

The note, which cites part II of the Criminal Law Act 1977, tells passers-by to take notice that “we live this in this property, it is our home and we intend to stay here.”

The note also says “any entry or attempt to enter these premises without our permission is therefore a criminal offence as any one of us who is in physical possession is opposed to such entry without our permission.”

Anyone threatening the men with violence is warned they will be prosecuted and could receive a sentence of up to six months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.
