Worthing family threatened with claw hammer during dinner

A family were threatened with a claw hammer after intruders burst into their home.

The incident took place just after 7pm on Sunday.

A couple were having dinner with their three children in a first floor flat in Chapel Road, Worthing, when there was a knock at the door.

The 30-year-old man opened the door and two men rushed in, threatened him and his 27-year-old partner, and stole £700 cash, two mobile phones, an I-pad, and a quantity of aftershave.

No weapons were used, although one of them produced what appeared to be a claw hammer during the incident.

The couple were badly shaken but unhurt.

The two men are both described as black and in their 20s.

The man with the hammer was about 5ft 5inches to 5ft 6inches, of slim to medium build, with a small pitted scar on his left cheek.

He was wearing a dark blue or black hooded top which was up and had a small badge with yellow colouring on it in the middle.

The second man was about 5ft 10inches, of medium build, with a short black goatee beard. He was wearing a dark blue hooded up which was up.

A third man, also described as black and in his twenties, was waiting by the flat front door during the robbery. He was 5ft 6inches, of slim to medium build, wearing a dark green hooded top pulled up.

Detective Constable Laura Sinden said: “This was a terrifying experience for the young couple.

“If you were in the Chapel Road area early on Sunday evening and saw this trio please let us know.”

Lucky it was not my house! They would not have left in one piece! I

Shame that we have to start arming ourselves at home! I have and will not think twice about using deadly force if someone threatens me or my family!

God help them!
