Post at 4pm plan for Sussex

Royal Mail reforms will see post delivered as late as 4pm across Sussex.

The latest changes to deliveries have hit Worthing, but the company has said the whole county will eventually be affected.

Opponents say the elderly and small businesses will be hardest hit.

Royal Mail says the new methods will reduce injuries to postmen delivering bulky items and will keep prices low.

Residents in Newhaven and Polegate complained when the same system was introduced in August because of missed deliveries.

The changes by Royal Mail will mean new delivery routes and could see post delivered later each day.

The latest delivery time will be 3pm in urban areas and 4pm in rural areas.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Many customers will continue to get their mail by lunchtime.

“The time customers receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route.

"This may be later or possibly earlier than current delivery times.

“Eventually this will be rolled out across Sussex but we do not have a definite timescale.”

The latest postcodes to be affected by the changes are BN11, BN12, BN13 and BN14.

oh for goodness sakes, at this rate they might as well just wait until tomorrow to deliver it.

Also, here's a wee hint: if they stopped delivering all that crap spam junk mail they accept on contacts, they might have more time to deliver actually proper mail that people want.
I filled in a form to opt out of their spam and I still get it.

So sad to see a once great service in a state of terminal decline. Postmen and women are the salt of the earth, unfortunately they are lions led by donkeys.

Having queued on several occasions last Xmas for about 90 minutes (!?) on North Street to collect my post (after getting a "we called but you were in! lol!" card through the door), cos they're couldn't be arsed to put more than one person on duty in the office despite the enormous queues, I have to say they struck me not such much as salt of the earth but more the slugs.

- The decision to put one person on duty in the callers office would have been taken by one of the many muppets masquerading as managers, leaving the one postman to face the anger of the public.

Well judging by their "couldn't care less" attitude whilst on duty, it didn't seem they were overly bothered by their manager's decision...

Have to agree with that last comment. "Posties" (what a cuddly name) are no longer particularly interested in anything other than their pension, which is one of the reasons Royal Mail is having to "reform" (another euphemism) their delivery methods prior to selling off this debt-ridden once great organisation.
